Calm before the Norm

I chose bone ache

over heart ache,

why feel anything more

than a thud against my ribs?

I play Miles

while driving miles

to your door, windows

down half the year.

Concussive conclusions

work best for me,

stupidity the norm,

faith its own fashion.

Maybe I exaggerate,

the pre-wedding photos

show trees, singing birds,

the work day an anecdote.

The broadcasts sting,

ring like broken bells,

tomorrow I visit grandchildren,

dancing, an option.
